Duplex Trout Rod
Thomas, F.E.
Duplex Trout Rod
from Marty's Classic Rods bk: At this time, Thomas offered an interesting variety of models such as the Thomas Duplex Trout Rod. It had an independent handle and two full sets of joints, which created a fly rod and a trolling rod. This Duplex could be ordered in all weights and lengths and was priced at $35/
ebay copy: Undoubtedly, a one of a kind F.E. Thomas fly rod. A Dirigo, of 8 different peices, each with a different micrometer reading. I do not beleive this rod has ever been fished. It is in mint conditon except for two tip sections with some bag marks from being stored improperly. Each peice is arrow straight. The guides show absolutely no signs of a line passing through, the handle only shows soiling from being handled. Here goes. The longer but sections is 32 3/8 inches, short but 22 3/8 inches. The mids are each 36 3/8's. Three tips are 36 1/4 inch, and the one shorter tip is 32 1/4 inch. Thomas designed the rod to make at least 5 different actions, and 3 or 4 lengths. The rod is either a 3 wt. or 4 wt. depending upon how you assemble the rod. The rod bag is sewn to fit each peice except for the last section which holds two tips.
Allan, the longest section 8'8" weighs 4.5 oz according to the PO scales. The shortest 7'4" weighs exactly 4.0 oz. If the reel seat were not nickle/silver, I believe the rod would weigh about 1 oz. less. The male ferrell on the mid's mic
's at 20/64ths, the mid is 15/64ths. I hope this helps.
Allan, here are the measurements in thousandths. The short tip just below the tip top, and at the wrapping is 45/1000, the but of the tip is 151/1000. The smallest diameter is two of the tips, same location, immediately below the eye wrap, is 27/1000, the other long tip is 35/1000 at the eye. The butts of the tips measures a .00135, a .00134, a .00130.
